AUGUSTA — Located at 28 Pelletown Road in Augusta, CLAWS Animal Shelter is home to 180 cats — for now.

As of April 15, CLAWS will close their doors due to pressure from officials and health code violations. CLAWS founder and Laurie Walsh, 50, said “The County Board of Healthy and the NJSPCA say we aren’t complying with safety regulations because we don’t have concrete walls and floors. How are you supposed to put concrete walls onto a wooden frame? It just isn’t possible.”

CLAWS started when Walsh, working in Sussex Borough at the time, saw the number of stray cats around. Some were hurt, pregnant or injured, and Walsh knew she couldn’t continue to let them live on

Update:  Well, folks, the apple does not fall far from the tree.  Dr. Ealy's mother fostered Macey, then fell in love with her, so guess who's got a new mom! <3

Macey's owners, unable to afford medical care for her, brought her in to be euthanized.  Her guardian angel, in the form of a wonderful veterinarian intervened, knowing that Macey could walk again, and even if she does not regain full mobility, she can still love and enjoy life.  She cannot stay at the clinic and the owners still want her put down.  Please help us find her a new home!

4-28-12  Sad Update:  "What was supposed to be a normal follow up appointment to remove his stitches, remove his cast and apply new cast went horribly wrong. From what we were told is that he was applied anesthesia to sedate him for only 30 seconds in order to remove his cast and stitches. But he did not wake up.......the doctor applied oxygen and tried to resuscitate him but he was gone. "  Run with the wind, sweet Bailey.

The shelter here is a high kill gassing shelter and I don't know what is going to happen if I can't find a rescue/home fast. I am in the process of moving back to VA and there is no way I can take on anymore furbabies. I just picked up a lil hound mix girl yesterday and need to move her soon as possible myself.

I pulled her from a local kill shelter a few months ago when she was only 6 to 7 weeks old. She was being called "the saddest little puppy in Rocky Nt". You can see why from her shelter pic. She is now a happy, sweet, sweet girl about 7 months old. She is trained to use the doggy door, gets along VERY well with kids and other dogs. Great on a leash, loves to ride in the car. Just an all around great dog. I do believe she will be a rather big dog by the size of those paws. lol

Any help will be so appreciated. I have to do something fast.

Her rescuers pulled her from the shelter as she was not doing well there and she is now in a doggy hotel waiting for someone to help her. Her rescuers are paying for her care in the hotel but Cindy has been moved around and kenneled so long she is beginning to shut down and her fearful behaviors are going to be harder to work with if they cannot find her foster NOW. The first foster did not follow directions for Cindy's care and the second was not willing to hold on to her after she growled over a treat - but Cindy has shown that she takes a few days to warm up to people she doesn't know and just needs someone to be patient with that adjustment period! Cindy is a WONDERFUL dog she warms up to people and wants to be by the side of those she feels safe with - she does have some food guarding issues as a result of a lot of kenneling and moving around but she has so much potential that those willing to be patient with her have seen first- hand. She needs an EXPERIENCED, EDUCATED dog person who will listen to trainer's instructions. No kids, no cats. Cindy NEEDS FOSTER DESPERATELY ASAP!!!

I honestly am not sure where or how to begin this story. So much has transpired. I will try to give you all kind of the Readers Digest version.

On Thursday March 8th, a story broke on the local news about a "rescue" gone bad type thing. Turns out a person who we all "knew" ended up NOT a licensed rescue, and in fact should be labeled a hoarder. She operated under the name Black Dog Rescue or Second Chance Black Dog Rescue... here in the Kansas City area.

Her home was raided, 17 dogs, 5 cats and some turtles were removed due to the horrific conditions found inside the home. The woman was arrested and remains in jail on a $46K cash only bond. This woman also operated what was referred to as "Black Dog Rescue Sanctuary". This old farm house is located about 70 miles South of

8-12-12:  The rest of the story:  "They did find a home in the nick of time after their mom died and home was being emptied out quickly. The new home was great for two weeks than husband became extremely allergic.  Now they are with an elderly neighbor of my sister who took them in. They had all their medical updates done. Are happy. The woman just had surgery last Monday due to a brain tumor.

I don't have an update since then, but I know the woman has grown children that are animal lovers - so I am hoping if the woman can't care for them, her children will. My sister lives in the condo complex and helps out and is involved. She loves them and is looking out for them - though cannot take them herself. Marie"

Their Mom is dying of cancer and they have nowhere to go. This senior Doxie and Cockapoo need to stay together.

She is very skinny with all bones protruding through skin, pressure sores and her weight is currently 35#. She is about 1 1/2 years old, very sweet and submissive. She was wearing plastic orange collar with partial chain hanging from it. Jan picked her up and stopped at nearest vet who checked her out, heartworm tested (negative) and gave her rabies and DA2PPv shot. Girls at vet named her "Daisy" (from skunk in Bambi) because she had been skunked. STAR has many many hounds and this girl needs TLC, not the Pound or kennel.

**HELP, I'm LOST** Shadow Went Missing Friday Night While on Transport.

SHADOW has been found! He was returned to his foster Mom yesterday afternoon. He’s doing wonderful, and wasn’t as skinny as we had expected. A kind & loving family took care of him for several days before seeing one of our flyers. She called Shadow’s foster Mom, who dropped everything and drove to a town outside of Vidalia to pick him up.

I was over there today visiting finally got to actually meet Shadow for the first time myself. He’s such a happy boy! Super loving and playful. Seems quite happy to be back home. We watched as he spent time running around & playing with his friends.  (and giving his foster mommy’s youngest daughter some extra love in between – too cute!)    Julia

WHO AM I?  This is Tigger.  He is an owner surrender. Tigger is a  4 months old Brindle Boxer. Tigger needs out ASAP and to a hospital where he can get the help he needs.   There are the notes from the owner saying that he started acting lethargic 2 weeks  ago.  Tigger is very weak and cannot walk.  This started 2 days ago.  He is not vomiting and there is  no  diarrhea but he is drooling alot. He does not eat or drink water. Has all  his vxs except rabies last vxs given 2/26/12.  Owner cannot afford to do anything else.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?  This little puppy needs attention immediately.  He is not eating or drinking, but drooling.  The fact that he is not drinking water, alone can be fatal.  He needs to be diagnosed and treated.

He needs temporary foster or a permanent home - he needs out of the shelter to be hydrated and given nutrients to regain his strength.  We need to find out why he is having these scary symptoms.  (It is even possible that he has been poisoned or bitten by something.)  Please reach out to your contacts and rescues.

Lincolnton, NC: Deaf Boxer and his mate turned in to kill shelter

This is the third plea for this precious couple. Their owners moved and turned them into a kill shelter.

WHO ARE THEY?  They are both very sweet and friendly. The male seems to be calmer than the female. They were both turned in due to moving. They did come in together. Looks like the female has had a few litters.

Male (no name given when turned in) : white w/brown over one eye and deaf, weighs 71 lbs. 5 yrs old .  Even though he is deaf, he can still be a wonderful pet!

Chiquita:  brown w/black muzzle, weighs 51 lbs. 3 yrs old

Arkansas: Senior Cocker girl found in a ditch needs rescue ASAP

Good Samaritan helped save this senior girl found in a ditch, but she needs help finding her a home ASAP. 

WHO IS SHE? *From Tammy: We rescued a cocker or cocker mix out of a ditch. She was all covered in mud, wet and cold. It took 2 hours to cut the mats off. She even had twigs stuck in her skin. We took her to the vet as she was weak and had diarea. She was anemic and had whip worms. We treated her with panacur and antibiotics. We gave her a pill for fleas to that will last a month. So, now she's all better and I don't know what to do with her. I have 5 kids of which 4 are 3 years old and younger. They torment her badly. We have had her a week and 2 days now. Oh and vet said she appears to be spayed.
If you can help me or know who can please let me know. I have done all I can. Vet said she's about 10 years old. I wish I could do more for her but its not fair for her with the kids pulling on her and climbing over her. Vet said if we didn't get her when we did she wouldn't have made it. She was covered in fleas and already anemic. Running a fever and could nearly walk from being so week. She's much better now. It's amazing what a week and some vet care will do! Thank you. SOMEONE WAS COMING FOR ME, BUT I WAS STOOD UP. Please, please help him, this is so heartbreaking.  He looks a bit like a little white Toto. 
WHO AM I? I don't know my name, but my number is ID#A420863 and they said I have to be rescued today or I die. What does that mean? Please come save me, please. I'm just a little boy, won't take up much room and I promise to be loyal and take care of you. I am a male, white Terrier mix. The shelter staff think I am about 1 year old. I have been at the shelter since Feb 08, 2012.
