Jonah and Olive officially have a place to stay until I can get back on my feet, which I hope to do as quick as possible. This was confirmed today with a wonderful woman, Sheila, and her husband who have several dogs of their own and a large, fenced in yard. I am very confident that they will be well cared for and loved just as much as they are by myself. Thank you everyone who has helped get the word out and made this possible. I wish I could personally e-mail each and every one of you and tell you how much this has meant to me, but that would take a very long time so please except this mass e-mail as an official thank you from the bottom of my heart. I think it goes without saying that I have many good deeds I need to pass on after this.

Hi! My name is Taffy. I'm shouting inside and no one seems to hear me. Please… listen closely to my story.

I want to tell you many things so that you will understand me, adopt me, and let me be your forever companion. I am about five years old now, with gorgeous amber eyes and a handsome taffy-colored coat. Four years ago I was found by Castaway Critters Pet Rescue running along a busy highway. I was only a little over a year old at the time. I was very hungry, thin, covered with fleas and pregnant. They took me to the shelter where I had three puppies; one of which died but the other two were adopted into loving homes. In spite of all my issues, I am a beautiful girl (both inside and out).

You probably know that my being a pit mixed-breed scares people because of all the bad press we’ve been given. It's unfortunate because I’m actually extremely sweet and really love people. As with most dogs of any breed, there are some dogs I just don’t like, so I am looking for a parent who wants an only child. I love to be hugged, take walks in the park and have my tummy rubbed.

Because the shelter has so many animals staying here, I am often overlooked as most people want those “foo foo” little dogs that come in. So here I remain, 4 years later, with decent accommodations but with little to look forward to except my next meal and the hope that someone will take me for a walk and then to McDonalds for a burger. Even this doesn't happen often because the volunteers and workers at the shelter are so busy helping all the animals. I understand that, but it still makes me sad.

I’m so sad sometimes that I don’t even feel like eating and am hardly interested in treats anymore. All I want is for someone to love me like I would love them. Let me ride shotgun with the wind blowing in my face and take me home. One time I went home with another pit. The family had a mom and dad and children. It was so much fun and I even got to sleep on their bed! Unfortunately, this was a temporary situation because the people couldn’t keep me forever. They liked me a lot, but I found out that’s what fostering means. When I had to go back to the shelter I was depressed because I loved that home and family. I really want a home of my own.

Please help me, I’m so mentally desperate for someone to love me and take care of me. I am begging you for a chance to prove what a wonderful friend I will be. I can show you that I’m really a “foo foo” dog in a pit bull costume. If I were a human, I would be crying and you would see and hear me… and you would take action. Won’t you give me a chance?

7-18-13:  Wonderful update on Mutley!  I don't know if you remember this Dog we were trying to find a home for a while back, but I wanted to let you know we now have him in Alabaster. we went in debt to build a fence and he is with us now.It sure is nice not to have to drive 53 miles everyday to feed our Dog, we did it for 1 yr 1 week. 9-20-12:  Mutley is still at the house, his owner's family still makes the drive everyday to feed and care for him.  We are trying to help get his vaccinations, neutering and heartworm testing so he can be ready for the new home he so desperately wants.  Please share his story and any ideas you may have to help them all.

Mutley's mom's family is driving 56 miles everyday to feed and water him in spite of the fact that Margie has been unemployed for 20 months  and this is difficult financially.  They could take the easy way out, but they just cannot abandon Mutley.  Keeping him at their home is impossible.  They are desperately trying to find him a safe and loving home.

"I need to find a foster/forever home for Mutley. He is in the Ensley Highlands area of Birmingham, Alabama. He is part Coonhound/Mutt, around 6 yrs old, needs vet care. He is a good watch dog, but he is very loving and relates well to people. He belonged to my Mother in Law who passed away recently.

 My Husband and I are having to drive 56 miles everyday to feed and water him. We are looking for someone that has a  fenced in yard and/or some land if possible. We want someone that loves dogs and will take good care of him. We can't keep him because we don't have a fence and have 3 cats.  I don't believe he has ever been to the Vet, he belonged to my Mother in Law and she could not afford to take him to the Vet. He is not neutered.  He is about 6 yrs old, but I don't know a birthdate, as he was a stray that was abandoned from the neighbors next door when he was about 1 yr old and he started hanging around and became her dog.

He seems to play well with other dogs, but I don't think he gets along with cats. He is a very loving dog, not aggressive, he just barks when he sees people walking down the alley. He has never bitten anybody. I have never been afraid to approach him.  He is in a fence at the present time at my Mother in Laws house, but since she is deceased my husband will be selling the house in the near future. We are having to drive over to the house and feed and water him everyday. I am unemployed for about 20 mos now and we just don't have the money to spend on the gas, but yet we cannot abandoned him. SHANE is defeated, his spirit broken, and he has given up hope.  He most likely had an uncaring owner who simply dumped him to fend for himself, and now Shane finds himself at a kill shelter that uses the gas chamber.  He is so depressed he just hangs his head in despair, his ears covered in fly bites, his coat dirtied from the elements he endured, his spirit...broken.  Please rescue Shane, he deserves so much more than the life he's had.

9-4-12:  Harmony went to her new forever home yesterday!

My name is Kim Sawyer, and I have the best dog named Harmony, and we need your help.  I am disabled, and family circumstances have made it necessary for me to move to Virginia to live with my sister.  My sister and I are moving in with her boyfriend of two years at the beginning of September.  Her boyfriend has a 15 year old autistic son who cannot tolerate dogs.  So, I have to find a new home for Harmony.

Everyone who meets her falls in love with her, and she likes nothing better than a good tummy rub.  She has been my salvation, and knows when I'm upset before I do.  She always comes over to comfort me and when I cry, she holds my arm with her paw.  She wakes herself up by letting out little barks in her sleep and then starts barking at the sound that woke her up, not knowing it was her.  She tries to scratch her leg by sticking the whole thing in her mouth and takes food only when it’s placed in her bowl or given to her.  She knows how to sit, lie down and come and walks well on a leash.  She loves her leash and her harness so much that she licks them when we use them.

Harmony is a female Saint Bernard mix that is almost 12 years old and she weighs in at 86 pounds.  She was adopted from a Humane Society in South Carolina in 2001.  

Harmony is an indoor dog that is housebroken, and she loves people, and is good with kids, once they have been introduced.  She doesn’t like cats, but takes to strangers easily.  

Harmony has been contained in a yard with a four foot fence for most of her life and doesn’t jump.  She is passive, and would let another dog eat her food with only a whine.  She has a tendency to bark at unusual noises and new people (until she gets used to them) and paces and licks her arms when she is stressed.  Harmony is used to having human company during the day, and has the run of the house, but she is not destructive, even when left alone.  

She has not been crate trained, it was never needed. She is heartworm negative and is currently on Tri-Heart Plus procured from Hanover Animal Hospital where she is a patient with her file under Kim or Harmony Sawyer.  

Harmony needs to find at least a temporary home by the end of the first week in September.  She needs a new home because her owner is moving into a home, where no dogs are allowed.

*West Palm Beach, FL: The saddest face you will ever see

This sweet and gentle soul won the heart of his rescuer (Joanne)  We are pleased to report that this is a wonderful and classic case of "foster fail"! He looks so much better now and is loved by his new family.

What is wrong with someone who dumps a precious soul to die in the heat and with no food and water???  Please look in these sad eyes and help us find the home and family he so desperately wants.

This boy was found wandering in the Acreage, WPB , yesterday by a friend of mine. The dog is in horrible shape and needs medical care and a foster home. She took him right to the vet. He may have sarcoptic mange although he tested negative for it. He is being treated as if he has mange, although the vet thinks it may be only a horrible skin infection. My friend has over a  dozen dogs and can't keep him separated or in a place conducive to his recovery. He is sweet and pathetic looking. Needs help immediately.

Mojo a very adorable deaf pooch that was being taken to animal control if not rescued.

Thankfully, some very kind rescue people stepped up and got him to safety. Thanks to Joyce and the Homeless Pets organization, Mojo is now safe. He is a total sweetheart, but he is in boarding and desperately needs a foster home.

*From Lisa:  Our beautiful Gina is a purebred Cane Corso Mastiff. She was rescued around the same time as Olive. We were doing transport for a group that pulled Gina on the day she was to be euthanized. She never made it to the rescue group ... with their blessing, we took Gina home.

I lost my heart dog, Sara, to DM, in February 2011 at the age of 12.5. Though we help as many dogs as we can, I had a hole in my heart the shape of Sara that another dog never seemed to fit into in quite the same way. Until now. Although Gina is double Sara's size, she fits into that hole. I would be devastated to lose this special baby, this awesome gentle giant, whom I swear is human, after having her for only 2 months.

I always wondered how anyone could have given up this dog, who was found as a stray (which is impossible as anyone who has ever met a Corso will tell you), but I soon discovered the reason. Gina had a lump on one of her mammary glands. Some asshole dumped her, with cancer.

After testing and hoping for the best, I found out two days before my wedding that my beloved dog had cancer. It was almost more than I could bear. It is not mammary cancer as she had been spayed but it seems to be a liposarcoma.

We received an estimate today from the veterinary school and the whole thing (tests to stage the cancer, excision surgery, etc.) should cost between $1800-$2100. We are still reeling from Olive' surgery and our wedding. Truly, if we had known about the dogs then maybe we would have cancelled the wedding party, even though it was one of the best days of my life and it came after some hard suffering on my part. We did not know about Gina soon enough and we had already spent the money on Olive's surgery so now we are really hoping for some donations.

It is very odd for us: we rejoice when we see Olive walk and run and we know she is a miracle, then we see Gina and her tumour is visible when she stretches out all 122 lbs of herself.

I am hoping for a miracle by September 10, when we have Gina's appointment.

These dogs were no one's dogs, but someone cares about them now. I hope you all do too.

Antioch, TN: Peanut, sweet recovering doxie needs new home

8-14-12:  Peanut had his surgery and is doing much better, but now his mom is facing her own surgery and finally has to find another home for her boy.

“Once again I need help with my Peanuter!!!. I am at the point where I need to find a home for him.  I cannot stand seeing him in his pen in my kitchen any longer with the long hours I work.  He is getting around fine. He takes a couple steps and drops and drags.   I think he is actually ok with this.  He still has hardly no control of his pee and poopeven though seems to be getting somewhat better.  This is why I have to keep him locked up in the pen in the kitchen.  It is really driving me crazy seeing him confined like this.  I know anyone that would take him would have a better set up than me and take alot more time with him.  At this point I think I am being selfish for keeping him.  I have taken him to acupuncture 5 times and Dr. still has hope for him getting control back.  She says those nerves can take a long long time to heal that sends the message to his brain that he has to poop!!!!  Please put this out there for me because at this point I feel like I have done all that I am capable of doing and I want Peanut to have someone with him that will love him and take better care of him than me.  I am scheduled for reverse total shoulder replacement September 13th.   After this surgery my doctor says I cannot lift over 5 lbs. which means I cannot lift Peanut to care for him.  I have steps I have to carry him down to take him outside so the surgery means he won't even get to go outside anymore.  And it will be impossible for me to bathe him or anything.    I love you guys for all the help and support you have given to me and Peanut. I just want him to have a good home. He's so precious.  Debbie”

TYLERTOWN, MI: TORNADO HITS ST. FRANCIS ANIMAL SANCTUARY AND HUMANE SOCIETY OF LOUISIANA - PLEASE HELP

August 9, 2012 -  St. Francis Animal Sanctuary (SFAS) of Tylertown, one of the largest No Kill shelters in Mississippi, suffered serious damage when hit by a tornado.

The storm destroyed several buildings at the St. Francis Sanctuary, sending a 2 X 4 through a roof, which then spearheaded in to a bedroom. A building collapsed on rescued dogs killing one and others were left with lacerations and internal bruising. Some dogs are loose running around the 50 acre property and many buildings have been damaged.

They are in bad need of supplies that include: Tarps, zip ties, crates, kennels, X-pens, building supplies, fencing, generator, flash lights, contractor trash bags, cleaning supplies, bungi cords, rope, bleach and batteries.

Foster homes needed for puppies/dogs/kittens/cats.

If you are able to donate any of these supplies, bring them to Jefferson Feed and Seed on Central Ave., and Jefferson Highway, 504-733-8573. Financial donations are always in need.

Hartford CT: Heartbreaking plea from 16-year old girl

8-9-12:  URGENT UPDATE:  Poor little Tyson's temporary foster person is being evicted and once again, he is in an urgent situation. Please network for this precious boy who only wants to play ball, share a cuddle and have a soft bed.

Tyson is patiently waiting just to play ball with someone.

 We received a very “different” call the other day from a 16 year old girl who needed to rehome her beloved 4 year old Pit Bull named Tyson. She and her mom have been in “hiding” for 2 years now from her dad who physically abused both of them and Tyson....

They have been on the waiting list for an apartment for these 2 years. In the meantime, Tyson has been staying with her Uncle in what she thought was a great home. Sadly, she found differently a few nights ago when she made a “surprise” visit and found Tyson locked in a cage in the basement. Her Uncle finally confessed that Tyson spends the majority of his time in the cage because her Uncle “just doesn’t have time for 3 dogs”.

She broke down in tears as she thought about how Tyson listens to the other dogs playing upstairs while he sits in his dirty cage all day . This is a girl who truly loves her dog…just can’t have him for her safety and his. She then began asking questions like “do you screen people”? “Do you do home visits?” “Would you ever bring him to a shelter?”  These are questions that grown adults don’t even care to ask, let alone a kid. Of course she would love to have Tyson back one day but she understood finding a long term foster is almost impossible and stated that if a good home came along, she would want Tyson to have it. He is good with other dogs and has lived with cats his whole life. He is vaccinated and will be neutered soon!

We just found out that Tyson is now in a very temporary foster, but this person's dogs do not like him, so we need to continue trying to find him a safe, secure and loving enironment before he gives up.  He deserves this and so does his sweet little mama.

Canada: Now Cane Corso Gina has Cancer - Family Still paying for Tiny Olive's surgery

8-4-12 Update:  We have good news and sad news.  Olive is spinal walking and no longer in pain!  Lisa's wedding at her farm is today. 

The sad news is that, this week, Lisa has been told that her beloved Cane Corso, Gina has cancer. It is operable and the fee will be almost the same as Olive's. Lisa and her family are struggling to pay for Olive's surgery and now this. There is nothing more heartbreaking that not being able to help your pets because of money and who has that kind of money lying around.

The best and only wedding present Lisa would ever want is for her animals to be safe and healthy so if you could please crosspost her Chip In, I know she would be grateful.

yesterday a man pulled into my driveway with 5 puppies and the momma dog all loose in the bed of his truck..he said if i did not take them he would have to get "rid" of them........well..the photo is of little dude..they were so hot and thirsty he climbed into the water bucket and sat there..he is so cute..all 5 are covered with ticks and fleas...so is mom dog... i am not asking for money but i need to get them placed NOW...i cannot afford the vetting they require and i have had to move my dogs all around to make room for these little loves...there are two yellow lab mixes,...little dude that looks like a blood hound mix, and two black and white puppies..the mom looks like a cross btwn a aussie shepherd/lab all are very sweet...please if you can help me with this....i am dealing with my moms illness but could not turn these living beings away knowing what was probably going to happen to them....i am going to get picts today....please if you want info email me and i will send you picts ..they are in chase city , va at blue horse rescue.....

Update: 08-05-12: Coco did not do well last night and had to be taken back to the vets this morning. He was in so much pain he could not move at all. Any movement would send him in excruciating pain. We even had to pull over to reposition him during the car ride during ride to vet. Vet said steroid shot was a must despite needing to wait for

Ruby Needs and Deserves a Special Home

*From AllForLoveAnimalRescue.org:  Ruby is an adorable, young, sweet girl, who was on death row at the Camarillo Animal Shelter. Small in size, she is a pocket pit who is playful, energetic, and very friendly. All For Love Animal Rescue (AFLAR) helped a private party in getting her out of the shelter. They had committed to finding her a home, but were unable to do so. Now, in order to keep her from being returned to the shelter, AFLAR stepped in to help. Since she is young, Ruby will need some basic training, but our trainer has given her a good assessment.

Unfortunately, she has just been diagnosed with epilepsy. We took her to the vet for tests, and she is now on meds, and we are watching her carefully.

So, AFLAR is committed to helping Ruby, and therefore we are faced with boarding, training, and medical costs, in addition to eventually finding hera foster or forever home. And since she was pulled for a private party, we don't have any donations for Ruby, and so we are reaching out for help in caring for her.

AFLAR pulls many death row dogs and "medical" dogs from the Camarillo shelter (primarily Pit Bulls & Chihuahuas, who are most in danger). We operate solely on charitable donations to enable us to continue our work for these animals.

Please help us with Ruby by donating for her care, and also spreading theword about this great little girl? She is depending on us, and we won't let her down.

8-4-12:  RESCUED!!  Thank you to Gary and Cindy Peterson of Hokie Hounds for stepping up for Sugar and the same appreciation to Dolly Dickson and her family for risking their home because they could not look away from what Sugar was going through.
They took her in to keep her from being beaten, but the landlord won't let her stay. Please help find a good home for Sugar.
