Nashville, TN: Good Samaritan pleading for help for brother and sister puppies

 Sherri Levy could not leave these two defenseless puppies without the help they needed.  The little girl had been hit by a car.  Sherri got help for them, but just cannot keep them.  Please help her help them.  Read her story below.

These pups were abandoned by my apartments. Boy and girl, both fixed. Brother and sister. Taken to vet. They are approximately 6 months old. Husky/Shepherd mix. SOOOO sweet and affectionate. Little girl hit by car, broken leg, casted. (Will remain 6-8 weeks.) 37 and 40 pounds. My heart aches for them but I cannot keep them. First, her dogs were stolen, than went to Bartow County AC , Transferred to Etowah Valley Humane Society in Cartersville Georgia on December 13th, and THEN were rescued to an out of state Rescue. WHO that rescue was, Etowah Valley will not tell Ms Crumbley for legal reasons /privacy laws.

SO…PLEASE the Rescue who HAS these dogs step up and return them to Ms. Crumbley

Our dogs were brought to Bartow County Animal Control December 3rd, They were transferred to Etowah Valley Humane Society in Cartersville Georgia on December 13th, that is where the trail goes cold.. they were sent together to an out of state rescue and have been seen since. Our babies were stolen out of our yard by a very malicious woman. Sophie, the female German Short Haired Pointer mix is heart worm positive, spayed and can be food aggressive. Sarge, our VERY large lab is neutered and is not very fond of men, he has light blonde freckles on his front legs.

This wonderful and inspiring rescue has done so much good.  Rabiah Seminole, the founder and director and the heart and sole of this rescue is reaching out for donations and/or ideas to continue the good works they do. Please take a moment to read her letter and visit their website.  There is a video worth a thousand words.

“I am writing this because I am afraid. Afraid that all the work here may be coming to an end. We are struggling and need help.

We have taken in horses and dogs that all came with a story. Every story was pretty much the same.  ...“if you will take my beloved companion, I will send a donation every month to help, or I will come and volunteer , or I will help to raise funds, or I will come and help fix fencing etc.”

There have been few exceptions in those promises. There have been some wonderful people that have lived up to every promise they made. Others have not. Honestly, I did not expect them to. We have been doing this for 15 years and in that time have heard every story in the book about why someone could not continue to keep their companion. Some were very viable. Others, not so much.

The point is, we now DO need your help. Help to provide the care that every single one of these beautiful souls need and deserve. If every person that had promised to help had or would do what they said, things would be ok.

Our feed bill a year for grain alone is $30,000.00 our hay bill is $26,000.00 this is just for horse feed and hay. This does not include farrier fees which is approximately  $150.00 per week and vet bills. Thankfully our dog and cat food is now being donated.

I always hate asking for help and have done so only on a few occasions. We do not have the funds to do commercials or anything that cost money. We use every penny to support the ones here that are depending on us.

Marietta, GA: Help them help Bandit!

Bandit was going to be put to sleep because his special needs required time his owner did not have.  Julie, a young mother of a special needs child who also works as a vet tech reached out and took him into her heart and her home.  Now Bandit is in pain and needs surgery Julie cannot afford.  Please help them realize the dream of Bandit becoming a therapy dog while Julie's tiny son receives his own help to one day walk along side Bandit and his mom.

 "I would like to ask you for help. I know people probably ask you for help all the time, but please listen to my situation whole heartedly.

I am a 31 year old mother to the most amazing special needs kiddo in the world. He is three years old, and our lives have forever been changed by him. He was born with a really rare genetic disorder that has resulted in global delays and he can not walk or talk yet. I have every faith though, that one day he will run and scream to his hearts content. To get to this though, he does therapy every single day. Our lives are consumed by doctors visits and we are in and out of therapy centers weekly.

I am 31 years old and I have been a veterinary technician for the last 10 years. I love animals. We have 2 cocker spaniels, 2 chihuahuas, and 2 fat cats.  A couple of months ago, an owner came into the hospital and wanted to put her dog to sleep. This sweet dog happened to be a black and tan 7 year old cocker spaniel. Now she wanted to put him to sleep because he had suffered a back injury leaving his back legs paralyzed and she just couldn't help him with all that was going on in her life. I had to step in. I was able to get her to sign Bandit over to me and she thinks that I am her guardian angel. We now have 3 cocker spaniels!!

  He loves everyone. He flew around my back yard with his homemade harness on his back legs holding his rear up when he went out for  potty breaks. He was on strict restriction, so during the other times he was either in a baby play pen or on my lap on the couch.  

  Bandit is the most loving seven year old cocker spaniel I have ever met in my entire life. He came in to the vet because he was suddenly ataxic in the rear. I took him home and by the evening he was completely paralyzed in the rear. I started walking him in a homemade rear harness and realized that he was doing great walking like this. So about a month later he got himself some wheels from a very generous man at the Rolling Dog Project.

He was doing so good.... Until the night before last. His vertebra L1 was now collapsed. Without surgical intervention he is going to be in pain. I am so heartbroken. I have only known this dog for a little over two months but he has touched my life in so many ways. 

We spend so much time in and out of therapy centers for our little boy. My hope for Bandit is that after his surgery and hopefully some recovery, that he can be a therapy dog. He loves everyone and would thrive on going to therapy centers and hospitals.  Bandit was supposed to get his certification for Happy Tails on Feb. 16th to be a therapy dog.

I really want to help him. This is an emergency. I work in a small animal hospital but they do not do spinal surgery. The specialist in the area will give me a 25% discount on the surgery, but we can not afford it. I already have a $700 vet bill at my animal hospital. I thought I was going to have to put him to sleep yesterday, but I just couldn't. I want to give him every chance I can.

Desperate situation - Adian needs a few months in a foster home, please!

Dear Whom This May Concern,
This is a extreme long shot but i am in need of some assistance or if you could connect me with someone that can help... On January 10th, 2013, my dog Adian and i were going out like we do every night. My neighbor just happened to be taking his dog off leash and i had said to him that there is a Raleigh leash law, and we all have to abide by it because we live 5 mins. from downtown Raleigh, we are the heart of Raleigh. He began to get "Ugly" (raising his hands and shouting etc) when he raised his hand it looked as if he was going to strike myself or my dog. My dog reacted and went towards him, my neighbor claims "he bit him" but when i looked at his hand there was no mark... i went up to my apartment crated Adian and got my roommate to approach my neighbor to speak on this event. There was again no mark, twenty to thirty minutes later he apparently called Animal Control (understandable, in a way). When Animal Control got there, the officer claimed there is a mark, and that because my rabies paperwork for Adian is no where to be found (due to my ex being the one that was caring for Adian originally). So i was told by the Animal Control Officer that i could get Adian in ten days,etc. I waited out the days, and spoke with Karen Rogers, and she allowed to me pick him up on the 19th due to my boyfriend (TDY'ing - military training- The only reason my bf cant take him is he is getting basically deployed on state side terms) on the 20th. We took Adian to Asheville to stay with my cousin... I was under the impression that Adian would be staying in doors, and taken out, etc. normal dog care in my opinion. But i was wrong, he has him staying outside, and is attached to like a clothes line with a wire coming down that allows him to run back and forth. Not what i was expecting. My cousin said this is the best option for a lab mix, and thats what big dogs need and all this other nonsense.( Now, my cousin told me i have a week to find him a new place of residence...01/25/13)
Needless to say i am not happy.. So now i am back to square one. My rental company will not allow Adian back on property (nor will they refund me the 250 i paid for him to reside here), and will not allow me to end my lease early. I have till April left on my lease, and am i looking to see if anyone can help by fostering him- preferrably a home where he would be the only animal. he has grown up with a chihuahua that i currently have but that seems to be the only dog that he feels comfortable with in our home. If anyone was able to help i would provide, His XXL crate,food,treats,toys,bedding etc. for him and i am also willing to pay a little something for his keep, i cant pay to much but i am willing to try to do what i can. I know it is a long shot because in the rescue world finding a single dog available foster is scarse but i am asking for any help. Please, i can provide refrences regarding his temperment, and anything else that is needed, and if anyone can help it would be as temporary as possible..

Unfortunately the person I thought could give Coco a permanent home can't - so I am asking for help again with posting her, cross posting her info and in general, finding her a home.  The last 6 months she has been cared for at the riding stables of a fellow fosterer where a 17 yr old teenager who worked there wanted to keep her. Unfortunately the girl's mother won't allow her to have her at home. That was OK as it was ok for Coco to stay at the stables - but now the owner is about to sell the property and move to Connecticut. So other arrangements need to be found for the dog. Thank you, Karen 

Coco, a 1& 3/4 yr old Catahoula mix needs to find a permanent or foster home asap. She is spayed and utd on vaccines. She is smart, affectionate, loyal, playful and full of energy. She probably will do best as an only dog. She has been around cats but she chases them and they don't like that much.

Today I lost the ONLY source of financial assistance that was allowing us to have the funding to feed our cats.  Literally, we have no way to continue to purchase food.  We are financially stretched to the max just affording to remain in our home, which we came very close to losing earlier this year.  We have NO CREDIT or credit cards.  After over 25 years of rescue and helping, I am now the one who needs help now - which I have always hated to ask for.  I work two jobs, literally 7 days a week - making substantially less money than I did several years ago at one job.  Richie's job has reduced his income by taking away commissions, approximately 15% (minimum) of his salary.  We need people with rescues and no kills to start taking cats from us.  Alternatively, we need regular food donations for 40 cats which is how many are now here (we do have a source of regular food donations for the dogs here, but that resource has no cat food).  I have tried adopting, no one wants cats - particularly adults or semi ferals.  One cat a friend managed to find a home for on our behalf is on the way back because she didn't get along with the other cats in the household that adopted her.  Plus, as you know I have a lot of seniors here and no one wants them at all.  Adopting out one cat here or there barely scratches the surface.  I am at my wits end and I really don't know what to do.  The idea of putting cats into kill shelters - many of whom also won't even take them anyway (other than to immediately euthanize) because they are full - is beyond heartbreaking.  Please, if there is anything you can do, contact me as soon as possible.  I am in a position to keep some cats, probably about 10.  But feeding (and vetting when they need something I can't do here myself) 40 cats is impossible without the financial assistance I was informed today is no longer available to us.  Please help!

Memphis, TN: Thrown out of a car - This Little Beauty Will Steal Your Heart

Little Ella was thrown out of a car in a rural area of Shelby county...

 2-3-13:  An update from Lynda.  Here are the pictures we promised!  "She is doing very well. She is starting to get some of her hair back she still has a rough place on the end of her muzzle and top of her nose that still has some little crusted stuff on it and some small bare spots on her hip area but she is doing very good. I went to see her the other night and she is the most loving dog. She is still a little skittish when you first pet her and she has a little accident where she sits but other than that she is learning the come command and the sit.  She is doing much better about getting her twice weekly bath.  She seems to actually like it.The man tells me he doesn't always give her two baths a week but she was getting two medicated baths a week.   Now she gets one most every week.   He said he some times skips it if it is real cold out.  We will be talking to the vet real soon about getting her spayed and finish all her other vetting.  She is HW NEG and no other worms.   Dr Snow said he didn't want to spay her with the mange and she had a secondary infection but she was clear of that now . There is a rescue interested in posting her for me to get her a forever home as soon as she is clear of the mange.

*From Elizabeth:  She had a bad case of mange all over her face and bite marks all over her body. Some were still wet with blood. She spent Christmas freezing, starving, and in great pain and loneliness. Despite this she managed to make it to one of the houses in the area and the man went and found Lynda Kent Together they took her to a local vet and were turned away because they wanted full payment up front. The next vet agreed to help and I made a down payment.

She is Golden / Sheltie mix as close as the vet could tell she is approx. 12 to 18 months old. She is HW neg! She has a great deal of healing to do. Thankfully, she is safe with an elderly couple fostering her temporarily and giving her her meds and medicated baths.  PLEASE - We need a rescue to step up and help this girl find a permanent home, or a longer term foster! We need donations to help this beautiful baby as she has more treatment needed .

*from Laurie:  Around Thanksgiving, this extremely sweet girl appeared in a neighborhood in Cuthbert. Acting like a puppy, she would jump in cars wanting to go for a ride, scare a neighbor's cat because she wanted to play with her, and aggravate people because she wanted to play with their dogs when they took them out to walk.
One lady had to feed her cat on top of the car to keep her from eating the food. They said she showed no aggression or animosity toward anyone or anything. It was just her puppy-like behavior that disrupted the neighborhood.
The lady that called the city to pick her up cried because she hated doing that to her because she is so sweet.

Her luck hasn't improved. The couple that take pictures of the pound dogs and place them in the paper and post them on the internet have been extremely ill. They are the pound dogs only link to the outside.  They were unable to do this, and now her time is up. The city has agreed to give her one more week.  Her rabies tag, shown in the picture that was taken before she went to the pound, was traced to a Boykin spaniel. His owner said that his dog had lost his rabies tag.

She is in good condition except for a small sore under her neck that was caused by her collar. She's probably 1 1/2 to 2 years. I'm judging her age by her looks and behavior. The kennel was locked and I was unable to look in her mouth. Nearly three years ago, I adopted Bodie. I was hoping to give him the best life possible after I found out what the first part of his life had been like. 

He was born into a hoarding situation, in which he lived for two years. His life was one of filth and squalor, and he lived off of Oreo cookies that had been thrown into the yard for all of the dogs to fight over. When the property was investigated, they found he trusted only the dogs in his pack. From there, he was taken to a non-profit rescue organization, deemed healthy and adoptable, and subsequently placed in a foster home for a year. However, no one wanted him because he was fearful, anxious, and timid, and to make the matter worse, the children in that family didn't like Bodie. They teased him mercilessly, and wanted him gone. When I overheard that on my visit, I decided right then that I was taking him, regardless of his issues.

Bodie has made great strides since the day he became part of the family. He was a constant gentle companion to his brother, Bishop, in the final months before Bishop's death. And although he is still a bit anxious around others who visit the house, with lots of love and some training he has learned to trust that no one will hurt him, and therefore will allow people to be close to him.

Over time, Bodie quickly became adjusted to his new lifestyle with me. Some of his favorite activities are camping, fishing, going to the dog park, and hanging out at Dog Beach! He's so wanting to return to the activities that make him most happy!

Bodie's Injury:  On November 10, 2012, we went out for the evening, and when we left, Bodie was, for all intents and purposes, fine. We got home about six hours later and found Bodie unable to walk correctly. He hobbled around in a squatting position and wagged his tail. As I attempted to help him, he did not yelp, cry or howl upon my touch. We immediately rushed him to the Doggie ER. 

At first sight, the veterinarian on duty said he was sure it was a ruptured, bulging or degenerating disc in his back, which needed to be confirmed by a MRI. The news was not good. It was a rupture into the spinal canal with compression of the spinal cord, and there were two options: surgery or Euthanasia. I told

Rescued!!!

Update - Biscuit is losing her temp foster, and is now BEYOND URGENT. She was staying in a cold outside kennel, but now she has nowhere!!! Please someone step up for her!! If you can help, please email 

 This is Biscuit. She is 15 years old, spayed and heartworm negative. She has her tail docked and is only 15 lbs. She is very sweet and a total lover. I also believe she is housetrained. In the picture she has a mole on her eye but she no longer has that, it has been removed. Our vet checked her out and she is healthy and heart is good. The owner brought her in to have her put down because he didn't want her anymore. He has had her since she was a puppy :( We begged him to wait and we will find a place for her. Charlotte, NC: Rookie on the way to the shelter for being too loving

This sweet 2-year old Rottie girl wants nothing more than to share all the good things that come with being part of a family, but the family she is with wants her gone immediately so she is headed for a kill shelter.  Decide for yourself and please help us save her.  She sounds wonderful and just wants to be included. Taffy has taken up her cause and will be the contact - there is no time so act quickly, please!

 Can anyone help? My husband has a co-worker that can't take care of her dog anymore. I know, I know. Why do these people get dogs to begin with? It kills me. Anyway, here's all the info I have on her. Need to find her a home ASAP.

Owner was going to take her to shelter but she told us that the shelter said they'd put the dog down. Ugh. Please please can everyone send this out? She is located in Charlotte, NC and I'm willing to help with transport if needed. She needs the dog gone asap she said or she will have to take her to shelter where she will be put down.  Please contact me if you can take her, or know who can.  Thanks to all

 Her name is Rookie. She turned 2 years old, October. She has been fine with the kids other than she doesn't know her own strength and will jump on them and knock them down. She barks at night until I bring her in the laundry room, then she sleeps all night. She is house broken. She is very strong. I can not take her on walks for this reason. She has developed a motherly bond with my shitzu. She is a great dog. I just can't control her and my back yard is not enclosed. She needs to run. Not spayed and the last rabies record  I have expired August. no vet visit records since then.

Lafayette, TN: Ellie was struck by a car

Ellie....... Was hit by a vehicle Friday night... She was taken to the vet, x-rays  were taken, vet advised Ellie has a broken pelvis and must be confined and was placed on Meds . Her vet bill has been paid.

 Ellie needs out of the cold shelter and off the concrete floor. I need a rescue to step up for her or a foster parent.
 Folks she can not stay in the shelter in her condition.  It is too devastating for her. She needs an angel to give her a quiet, warm and secure place to recuperate.   Please cross post and share.

PLEASE HELP ELVIS AND OZZY FIND A NEW HOME. THIS IS AN URGENT SITUATION FOR THESE PRECIOUS LITTLE DOGS. Their family is trying to keep them together. 

*From Janice: "...We tried finding them a loving home around here, but we didn't have any luck, and we might have to move again next month, and we can't take them with us, because this time we really will have to find a place rather fast.  It is really hard to find a new place that accepted dogs and soon the twins will start crawling... We are really broke right now, and we can't take them to Portland, and we tried really hard to find a loving home for them close by.  It has been really hard. Ozzy allergies are getting worse, but we can't afford taking him to a vet.

P.S.  We really want to keep them together, as they really enjoy each other company!!
I think it would help Elvis to adapt to a new family so much better, if he could remain with Ozzy.

Aslan’s Cat Sanctuary is a HOME for cats who have been diagnosed with Feline Leukemia. Historically most cats diagnosed with this dreaded disease were euthanized on the spot. With education, new treatments and further understanding of this condition, some people have come to be willing to give these innocent and often healthy cats a chance for a great life.

Sanctuaries have popped up over the years but securing a coveted spot in one of the great sanctuaries, is practically like winning LOTTO!!!

One such sanctuary is ASLAN’S in upstate New York. Aslans was decimated by Hurricane Irene. Through the kindness of MANY, Aslans was rebuilt. It was a miracle via the generosity of so many who gave both monetarily and physically while working there to rebuild the flooded HOME that was the only HOME to these animals.

Along comes Hurricane Sandy and although Aslan’s was extremely fortunate to escape the wrath of Sandy many other people and places were NOT. Aslans has stepped up to HELP displaced cats with feline leukemia. Aslans is NOW HOME to 80 cats. Homing and caring for 80 cats with feline leukemia is a loving, lofty goal and it will take lots and lots of money to keep these cats healthy and vetted regularly as needed. We know it CAN BE DONE...with your HELP.
