Memphis, TN : Sweet and Beautiful Little Bear Left Alone in a Field for Months

From: Angela

"I hope by some miracle someone can help this poor dog. Please share far and wide so that maybe there will be a miracle for this dog. I work at 201 Poplar and get off work at 6 am. Each morning I pass a field near my home and would see a white dog lying in the middle of the field, all alone.

I purchased a bag of dog food and would feed him each morning. It has taken months to win his trust, and finally I was able to slip a leash on him. He was so happy he rubbed his head against my leg as I led him to my vehicle.

I took him to my vet and he has heartworms – but they will be treated!!   And, of course he is not neutered. I am glad at least that he is no longer in that field with no shelter.

The problem is that I have no place for him. I am absolutely willing to pay for his shots, neutering, and heartworm treatment if someone could possibly take him in.

He is a young dog, maybe 2 or 3 years old and weighs about 50 lbs. (although he is underweight  right now). He seems to be okay with other dogs and ignored the clinic cat.  Thank you."

Memphis, TN: Max, unloved, living in a dark garage most of his life...

Now ignored by the system that should protect him. Help us find him the loving home he deserves.
Neutered, Vetted, No Heartworm

6-26-14:  A Letter from Max himself:

My name is Max.  People tell me I'm a very handsome fawn/white Pittie boy with golden eyes.  I don't look in the mirror much, so I'll go with that!

I haven't had a very good life.  My original owner really wanted me, but his wife hated me.  So, from the time I was a puppy she put me in the dark garage 24/7.  I was so lonely!!  I never had any toys or walks.  Then one day the woman said she was “pregnant” (whatever that is) and used that as an excuse to make her husband get rid of me.

He was very sad but she won.  (She always won.) She wanted to take me to the kill shelter - said she didn't care that they would kill me in 48 hours.   The husband and concerned neighbors took me to a foster.  I LOVE my foster (and she loves me!)  but she is too old to take care of me, and she has no yard for me to run.

It's been a few months, so I'm really scared I'm going to the kill shelter.  Memphis has so many homeless dogs and I don't have a rescue group.

Can you adopt me or rescue me?   I'm about 60 pounds.  In good with people and small dogs.  I'm afraid of larger dogs.   I LOVE to go in the car!  I spent so many years in a dark garage so I would love to have a small yard.

I will give you years of love!!  I will lay by your chair while you watch TV.  I will give you kisses when you need them. I will protect your house.

I will be loyal to the very end.

I just need a chance.

Love, Max

From the heart of a long time, dedicated rescuer and networker:
I have been unable to get local pit rescue to courtesy list him.  Nor have I been able to get local rescue here in Memphis to just allow him to come to adoption events, since he “wasn’t their dog”.
I have assisted in the rescue of 100s of dogs and contributed thousands to local rescue.
I’m so distraught about my failure to help this dog that I’m going to take a break from rescue until such time that this dog is rescued.  If I can't help one that is MOST  in need, then I can't live with myself.. I can’t abandon this one because there are “easier” dogs to rescue.
When we, as rescue volunteers, allow pit bulls to become a “throwaway” breed -  and don’t even care if their lives are in in immediate danger – we have failed.
Max’s only sin was having his life controlled by people who never loved him.  He tried everything he could to gain that love, but was instead kept in a dark garage and then thrown out.   See his story below.

FROM SHARON – HIS FOSTER:

“Max has never had a loving home - something he richly deserves!! This is the dog that a pregnant woman did not want any more. She had been keeping him in the dark garage most of the time anyway.  She attributed faults to the dog to justify her decision to to him to a kill shelter.

Please see this INCREDIBLY beautiful dog's pictures. He has been evaluated thoroughly by Bryan an expert at ProTrain. Per his foster, Bryan has said that Max as a very good dog! He has stolen our hearts!

Max is an exceptional dog, and much loved by people who care about him and who want him safe and happy. Bryan, the evaluator, says Max is a very adoptable dog! He does extremely well with small dogs, and is in a foster home with small dogs now. Children ten and older would be great.

Max is young, and he is insecure about storms because he was alone so much when he was a puppy. Max needs a loving home where he can lie by your chair and be your companion, which is what he is doing now with his foster - but his foster can't keep him much longer. She rescued him from his horrible life, but she is not at an age where she can keep him. Also, she doesn't have a yard, so Max doesn't get to run around in the yard and explore.

Max is an inside dog but he needs to get exercise. He needs a reliable rescue group or loving permanent home. Please help Max find a happy place where he will be safe and protected, so he can have the life he deserves.

Contact Sharon (below) for information as to how to rescue or adopt this precious boy. He really deserves and needs a loving, responsible, forever home where he will be there always as a great family member and companion.

Those of us who love Max want to know that he will be in a safe, loving and happy home.”

PLEASE help!!!!

Original story: *From J:  There are 15 cats left there now. Below are the photos of cigarette burns on the cats.

It is suspected that MS-13 gang members that frequent the property for night time partying have done this sadly and it has happened more than once. The Cat shelters were tampered with as well.

SPCA has this open case but cannot catch the abusers.  They will not relocate or home the cats since they just don't do that.  Most are TNR'ed, but a few new ones joined the colony that will be fixed.  Ages up to 3 yrs old. Some kitten age. Shelters will not take since they are full.

Twelve were already removed to safe havens, one at a time, but now the remaining 15 need a place.  I am told all are friendly, but I cannot verify to what degree.  Two feeders there now (an AM and a PM), but AM feeder is moving out of the area in July and don't know much about the other feeder yet except that it is on her way home from work to stop and feed. But they need to get out of there.

Latest burn incident was three wks ago and the traumatized cat is just starting to allow the feeder near him.

Little Shelter trying to help by allowing feeder to display some cats at upcoming adoption events. But those are the ones already in foster care. Last Hope had provided certs for TNR in the past and LAPnow. PETA was
involved at some point. This story was given to me through a PUPS volunteer. So, many are aware of the situation, but feeder now has hit a wall and no further leads to get remaining cats out of there.

The idea is "Just Take One" campaign for the remaining 15. So we need 15 people, each one to take one cat to either foster, place in shelter or find a home. Please spread this story to your animal network and beyond.

Wilmington, NC: Ernie, slight vision impairment but all sweet beagle boy

Ernie is a 6-7 yr old beagle that is the sweetest guy. He's neutered, up to date on shots, housetrained, crate trained and heartworm negative. Ernie was picked up as a stray by the Pender County Animal Control in Burgaw NC. He was pulled by volunteers minutes away from his inevitable death.  He was placed in a temporary foster home, but this home  is coming to an end very soon.

Ernie is visually impaired due to corneal scarring in his eyes. He has no problems seeing, gets along just great. No bumping into chairs for this guy but he does have the visual impairment. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, people, children, we are unsure about cats.

There has been some out of state interest in him but we have not yet heard back from the person, so we have to continue our campaign to find Ernie a home. He is so gentle and easy going and just a happy little guy. We need to find his forever home soon.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Emporia VA: Landlord insists no more dogs - 3 still need to be rehomed.

Please help these little angels. They are precious dogs caught in the middle and their Mom is desperate to find them new and loving homes.
SMOKE
*From LaRita: Hello. My name is LaRita Simmons and I live in Emporia VA. I recently reached out to Ms. Nansee In North Carolina to rehome my dog Roxy and a lot of you all responded. I have 4 other dogs who are also rescue dogs and they are also inside dogs for me. My landlord has informed me that per request of his father I'm going to have to rehome them. Therefore it would mean a lot to me if someone could help me rehome them with a family that's going to love them as much as I did when I rescued them. (2 of 5 have been rehomed, 3 still needing your help)

(above) My baby Smoke: He's a Pomeranian. I fell in love when I first saw him. Smoke has had his shots as well. I have had Smoke since 2008. He's a laid back quiet dog. He don't like to play or run around a lot he just like to chill and be him. He was recently hit by a car about 7 months ago when I went away on vacation and a coworker kept him for me. She let him out to go to the bathroom with a leash on a busy street. The car didn't literally hit him but it took all the fur and scraped the skin off the top of his back. He is very fragile. I did take him to vet to find out there was no broken bones or internal bleeding.

DIESEL
(right) Diesel: He's 5 years old so the vet told me. He too has had all of his shot. He's an Australian Cattle Dog. He don't interact with kids or other dogs. He is very loyal to his owner and very protective. He is very strong and very loving. He too is a house dog.
SMOKIE

(left) Smokie: This is the baby of the bunch. I have only had him 10 months.  He's a Lab/Dominion Pincher mix. He has been tested for worms, had his rabies shot and suppose to go back to vet in 3 weeks for another shot. I really hate to see him go. He's so spoiled. He haven't learned the technique of jumping yet. He's just my big clumsy baby.

Charlotte, NC: The Perfect Gentleman to add to your Family, please help this boy find a Loving Home.

I LOOK TOUGH ON THE OUTSIDE.  BUT I'M SOFT ON THE INSIDE.
The vets think I am boxer/lab mix.  (People mistakenly thought I was part pitbull.)  I am 2-3 years old, love other dogs and would be a great family dog or companion.  I love the car and sit quietly looking out the window.  I've been fully vetted and all I need is a human(s) to call my own.  I am housetrained and have good manners and would love to learn more!
Adoption fee is $200.   The adoption process includes questions, homecheck and references to make sure I'm going to a dog-savvy forever home.  As you can see, I love a good party!  This was at my pretend birthday party.

West Columbia, South Carolina: Emergency Foster is need - he is in bad condition and they are begging for help

Tenderheart... his name says it all... needs your help. Sick and abandoned in a parking lot. Please help us help him.

*** Update ***
It's 10:15 and still no room for Tenderheart. Several people have talked about fostering but no one has actually come by to select a dog yet. He may have to spend the night in our file room.

Emergency Foster Needed ... We have no room for Tenderheart. This poor dog is in such bad condition that no one will want to foster him, but if someone will step forward to host one of our healthy dogs, we can give Tenderheart their spot. We hate to keep asking, but this dog is so precious and so much in need that we must do all we can to make up for the neglect and ignorance that put him in this condition. Please share this post. With over 90 adult dogs at our facility, we are sure to find at least one that can be fostered to make room.

Meanwhile, Tenderheart is receiving immediate care at our Adoption Center. He is about 7 years old and is suffering from mange, parasites, infections and malnutrition. We will know more after his blood tests and vet exam.

Tenderheart was abandoned this morning in our parking lot. We saw the red 4-door Ford sedan speed off but did not get the license number.

If you are able to foster please call us right away at 803-739-9333 and ask to speak with Kenny or Heather.

Donations for Tenderheart's medical bills can be sent to

Feral cats abandoned in Burlington NC URGENT

Urgent situation, 8 to 9 Feral Cats in danger.

https://www.facebook.com/FeralsFreedom
*From Annie: Good evening,

I write this with a heavy heart as 8 to 9 feral cats are in danger of going to the shelter. Their caretakers home was foreclosed on - the bank now owns the property. I am unsure how long they have until animal control is called as the property has been abandoned since the middle of January.

I go every 2 days to feed and water them. They have a fence they can get in and out of, a plastic dog house with a tarp over it - I put straw in it before it snowed.

There were 15 in all but I moved 6 to my backyard in hopes that they will learn this is their new home. I am unable to move them all. I can not have 14 to 15 cats, as we live by a highway, have dogs that are not cat friendly and my neighbors would have a fit.

The cats are a result of neighbors not spaying/neutering. We knew the people that lived on the property - They were dog people but fed cats that were starved. Of course the cats set up shop in their backyard. When we visited them last year they were inundated with kittens and had approximately 27. Some were killed when a neighbors 2 dogs got loose.

I took it upon myself to have as many females as we could catch, spay. This was done through Sheets pet clinic and FCAP - both in Greensboro.

As of now there are 4 females on the property that have been spay. I was told there may be 2 to 3 more females. Only 2 or 3 of the cats are friendly enough to let me pet them while they are eating. I tried to catch one - I had her but she went berserk and got loose. Needless to say she avoids me. lol

Alamance county does not have a TNR program through the shelter or the humane society. All ferals are killed when they hit the shelter.

There are some beautiful cats - including a black/ white long hair, a fluffy grey tabby, a black/grey tabby, a solid black, the majority are grey/white - there is also an older tom. The orange one in the picture is a neighbors cat.

I realize these are wild cats. But I also know, after working with the 6 here, that they can be tamed with time.

I'm praying I can find somewhere they can go, where they will be safe to live out their lives. If you can help in any way - Please let me know.

Regards,
Annie

Daleville, AL: CRISIS - Noah the trash eating abandoned pittie needs boarding funds immediately, foster home did not work out!!!

Noah has nowhere to go, please help us raise the funds needed to board him or find a new foster home.

*From Melissa: Hi everyone.

We got a call last night about 9:30 pm that Noah, the little mange pittie from Opp, Alabama that I went and got off the street, has to be picked up from his foster home by tonight. If we cannot raise the boarding funds by tonight he will have nowhere to go.
He was doing fantastic with all the dogs there for several days, but yesterday was left outside with the foster's female pittie while she was away from the house for awhile...
When she got back home, he and Eva had been in a fight and both had a few minor cuts and he was limping a little bit on one foot. Because of this Noah can no longer stay there to foster and we are in panic mode about finding him somewhere safe by tonight.

My only options are vet boarding, which is 17.00 a day and I really hope we don't have to do, or boarding at the local rescue in Daleville, and she will only charge us 12.00 a day but would need us to pay in full for the two weeks I have asked her to give me to try to find another foster, then we could re-evaluate if he needs to stay longer if I have not found a foster. The total for the two week period would be 168.00. IF we can raise more than that, they will keep him as long as the funds are there and we will not have to stress so much about a foster, as they are almost nonexistent in my area.

If anyone can donate, you can donate three ways:

1. to the rescue's paypal address at allbreedsrescueadoption@gmail.com-- however, they have a monthly withdrawal limit.

2. I have offered to let donors use my paypal which is melissa.moore@troycable.net - I can take your donation in, in your name, to them. Receipt proof can be given from the rescue to assure that your donation was taken in, if you choose to use my paypal so they can get the money sooner. If you donate through my paypal, PLEASE indicate in the note box that it is for Noah as we have several strays we are trying to raise funds for vet bills for right now and I want to be sure it is applied to the right dog.

3. Noah's youcaring fund at http://www.youcaring.com/pet-expenses/noah-needs-boarding-funds-immediately-to-stay-safe-/138068

I am hoping his injuries are better today and that he was just sore on that foot, but if not I will need to get him back to the vet for a check and regardless I have to go get him from her tonight because he has to go.

I know many of you were very concerned about Noah when he was found on the street eating trash..... maybe his friends who helped before can help again and/or share widely for him!

The good news is his fur is coming back great after all the dips he had and he looks like a different dog! He is SUPER sweet and playful and until this incident he got along great with every single dog and cat he has been around - I don't know if there was maybe food involved or what, but unfortunately Noah can't stay there any longer.

This was Noah's initial information when he was found eating trash on the street in Opp, AL.

Poor Noah has suffered on the streets his whole young life and his hair is almost gone but ALL OF HIS SKIN SCRAPES HAVE SHOWN UP NEGATIVE FOR DEMODEX OR SARCOPTIC MANGE. Maybe he has a bad skin allergy? He is in very temporary foster and sweet little boy, and so will need somewhere quickly once we determine what his mange is. NOAH IS SUPER SWEET, YOUNG, GREAT WITH DOGS/CACTS/KIDS, AND HEARTWORM NEGATIVE!

PLEASE CROSSPOST URGENTLY FOR PLACEMENT FOR THESE GREAT DOGS!!!!! PHYSICALLY THEY LOOK SO MUCH BETTER BUT ARE NOT DOING WELL EMOTIONALLY IN BOARDING. :(

Pembroke Pines, FL - EX-URGENT!!!! - 6 yr. old SHEPHERD/ LAB GIRL WILL BE THROWN TO THE STREETS, IF NO ONE RESCUES HER!!

Given up once due to sad circumstances, Shirley was happily reunited with her owner only to be given up again because of the owner's heartless new wife.

PLEASE SHARE URGENTLY FOR A FOSTER, ADOPTER OR RESCUE!
TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!!

*From Maria: This is Shirley, a sweet 6 yr. old Lab Shepherd mix, who needs a new loving home. Shirley is a very good girl. She is sweet, friendly, playful, and gets along with everyone. Shirley had an owner that loved her very much, but one day her owner lost everything, and he had to give Shirley away because he could not take care of her or provide for her anymore.

He found what he thought was a good newhome for her, but somehow after a couple years she ended up at a high kill shelter. The shelter contacted him, and he went and got her, but when he arrived home with the dog, his new wife gave him an ultimatum to either get rid of the dog, or leave the house, because she did not like dogs in the house. So, once again Shirley is in need of a home. She has done nothing wrong.

This poor girl has been the victim of irresponsible humans, and she is paying the consequences OF BEING UNWANTED FOR NO GOOD REASON. She was so happy when she saw her former owner again, and went home with him, but now her little heart will be broken again.

The wife wants Shirley to disappear immediately, so we are desperately looking for a good loving home that will care for this girl like she deserves for the rest of her days. Would you be the one to open your heart and your home to Shirley?

If you want more information, or to meet Shirley, please contact Maria at: 561-289-2009.

Shirley is fully vetted, spayed, and ready for her new home. She is located in Pembroke Pines. Application, references and a small re-homing fee will apply.

Weston, FL: URGENT!!! Blitz has no place to go - Owner to euthanize

Emergency!! - Owner is going to euthanize because she has nowhere to put him! - Blitz, 90 lb Shepherd/Rottie/Lab mix losing his home!! - Good with dogs and cats, and loves children! - WESTON FL

The owner just told me that she has absolutely no place to keep Blitz , she has had him in a vet office boarding for 6 months trying to find him a home.  She has called every rescue in South Florida, and beyond.  She does not want him in a shelter, so she feels she has no option but to put him to sleep.

Is there anyone out there, any rescue who takes big dogs that can save this boy?

This is such a sad situation for Blitz.  He was rescued as a 5 week puppy by a family.  They lost their home, and had to move into an apt., and their family members had been taking turns watching him because the apt doesn't allow dogs.

The family member can no longer hold on to him, as she was in an accident and can't hold on to Blitz anymore and poor Blitz is living in a crate at vet office but he can't stay there any longer.

About Blitz written by the owner:

He is 3 1/2 years old, and neutered. He is 90 lbs., and house-broken, and doesn't have any bad habits such as chewing or digging.  He will, however, bark when the door rings, like most dogs.

He's great with babies and children.  He always played with children in previous neighborhoods, and has been amazing with my son since he was born October 2012.  He's careful and respectful of his space.

Blitz has made friends with dogs of all sizes, however, he doesn't seem to like unneutered males.  If they are neutered, or female, there is no problem.  Blitz throughout the years has lived with cats also and gets along with them.

NYC: 2 beloved family dogs need immediate temporary foster

Don't let these two precious faces end up at the NYC kill shelter.
Cross post as urgent.
Temporary foster needed for 2 smallbreeds whose Mother/Daughter are on SSI disability and whose rooming house was just vacated for code violations.
From the desperate owners now in a shelter that does not allow dogs:

Hello, my name is Lori Moser and my daughter's name is Chelsea Moser. I have been on SSI disability since last April and my daughter just got on SSI disability this month.
We have both been disabled by genetically related conditions for a very long time, but just went on disability because of my divorce. We have two dogs, a maltese names Emmy and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Suzette. Emmy's nickname is Kins and Suzette's is Zoodle.
We were waiting as patiently as possible for both of us to be accepted for SSI so we could move to more comfortable accommodations and were just going to start doing so when the fire department showed up at our rooming house andvacated the entire housedown for code violations. We had about two hours to vacate the building. The Red Cross came and put us up in a hotel for two nights and then the HRA transferred us all to a homeless shelter.
Fortunately, we have friends who stepped in right away to take the animals until we can find permanent housing.

Their situation does not allow this to be a long term foster home for the dogs, however.

Being disabled, our dogs are our constant companions and honored and beloved members of our family. Though our situation is currently a bit grim, our greatest concern is for our dogs, as we could not bare to loose them.
Suzette is elderly for a Cavlier at 11 years old. Suzette is 11 years old. Here she is modeling her makeshift winter booties. She has some hearing and vision loss but is not blind or deaf. The hearing loss is due to old age, she also has cataracts and recently her eyes have gotten worse. She had to have some of her teeth pulled a few years back, but she does fine with small kibble and loves just about any kind of people food. She is used to getting "last bites",when we eat, as is Emmy. We were waiting for Chelsea to get on SSI so we could take her to get them looked at by a vet and were evacuated before we had time to. She is very mellow and well mannered. She is very submissive to other animals and can be easily bullied. She is good around other dogs, cats, children....anyone two or four legged.

Emmy is about 7 years old.
Emmy is about 7 years old. She is also very good around all folks, two or four legged. She is a little more nervous than Suzette is, and but she settles in. She loves to snuggle and will pretty much snuggle you as much as you will let her. She likes to sleep next to you if she can. She is very thin and at first this might alarm you and we are always a little concerned, but she has been that way all of her life. She has always had unlimited access to dog food and gets table scraps as well. She just doesn't eat much. She has had her blood work done a few times because of her weight, but everything has always been fine. She has very small teeth (which need to be cleaned, and have also been waiting on SSI $) so she too needs kibble with small chunks. She is a very good girl and will not give anyone any trouble. She will just be nervous at first until she has time to adjust. She is VERY bonded to Chelsea and I and this has to be very difficult for her.

Neither dog is spayed. We bought them from very good breeders and we thought we may breed them once each for friends and relatives to have the pups, but life had other plans and neither of them has ever had puppies. We used to live in a big house with a big back yard on the West Coast, so they were not around other dogs much and it didn't cause any problems.

It would be ideal if the two dogs could stay together, but if that is not possible, we will be grateful for whatever situation allows them to be safely returned to us when we are able to get permanent housing again. We will be eternally grateful to anyone who fosters our babies. Oh, and they are both trained to go piddle on piddle pads, but they also go potty outside. Because of our disabilities Chelsea and I are homebound much of the time and our dogs are everything to us. They are truly our family.
BAFN will deliver these
dogs to you and pay for food.

FLORIDA: PRINCESSA NINA WAS THE WORLD TO HOMELESS MAN, LIVED UNDER BRIDGE

Beautiful shepherd!! Please share for this sweet baby!! Lived with homeless man under bridge and the owner is now dying !

Contact: Mirta 305 484 1349
Please someone take this baby ! She is spayed, clean, utd on vaccinations. Just needs a home!!

*From K: Please save Nina. She lived together with her owner under a bridge, homeless but never separated. He is now in the hospital dying with his last wish and prayer is that Nina go to a loving home and not a shelter or worse. Please try to imagine what she is going through, no longer with her loyal companion any longer. We are begging someone out there to save her and give her a forever home where she will be able to go on without her best friend. Transport can always be done-tell everyone.
*From K: This girl is beautiful, and she has lived a hard life with a homeless man, but she was loyal and faithful to the end. Now he is in the hospital dying. After a lifetime of living the homeless life I hope and pray that someone
can see the hard times this beautiful German Shepherd, now shaved, has endured; I hope everyone sees her heartbreak and worry. This precious, intelligent girl doesn't need to go from one place to another place, here and there. She needs a steady forever home with someone who will be her loving companion. and who will let her sleep on the bed at night or next to it in her own comfortable bed. She needs someone who will be there for her, and just her. I know there are people out there with loving and compassionate hearts who are solid and 100% forever loyal. That is what this girl needs, and she needs it now. I know you see what I see, and our heart will be breaking for this girl until she gets the loving and comforting home that she needs and deserves.
Where is she now?
